Come shape the future of the nation’s 8th largest city! The City of San Diego, CA, seeks its next Planning Director.
The Planning Director will be a crucial player in Mayor Todd Gloria’s initiatives to improve the quality of life for the City’s residents and visitors. Be a part of the City’s history as you lead a team of 70 planning professionals tackling initiatives in housing availability and affordability, environmental justice, community planning, park planning, historic preservation, conservation and resource protection, and infrastructure planning.
Required Experience / Skills / Education
The ideal candidate will be a trendsetter able to use their tenured urban planning and policy development background to create and execute plans that shape innovative solutions to these pressing issues. A sound political acumen involving internal employees while building rapport with external community stakeholders will be vital in this role. The selected candidate must have substantial experience in urban planning, a passion for creating great places, and a desire to foster a more equitable and sustainable future. The individual will demonstrate excellent leadership; possess superior analytical, written, and verbal communication; and be skilled in organizational, program, and project management.
