Planning Technician I/II

Job Description

The County of Ventura is seeking candidates for a Planning Technician I/II position.  Salary: $48,475 – $72,530 annually with excellent benefits.

With a staff or 40+ planners, the County Planning Division offers a collegial and professional work environment with opportunities to learn and develop urban planning skills on diverse projects.  The Planning Division also offers flexible schedules, including the option of working a 9/80 schedule.

The current opening is for a Planning Technician to work full-time at the public information counter on the Public Administration Team, but the eligible list may be used to fill vacancies on other Planning Division teams.  This is a permanent full-time entry-level planning position where significant on-the-job training will be provided.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

This candidate will have effective time management and organizational skills, demonstrated skills in collecting and synthesizing data, experience preparing clear and concise written reports, effective writing skills and strong customer service skills.  In addition, this candidate must have some proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook or another email application.

Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or a related field. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a public sector environment, have some knowledge of planning and land use laws, and will have demonstrated public speaking skills in an educational or job setting.
