October is National Community Planning Month!
October is National Community Planning Month, 31 days dedicated to recognizing the achievements of planners. This year’s theme, “Housing as Community Infrastructure,” underscores the critical role of housing in our social and built environment and emphasizes the important role planning plays in delivering housing to American communities. Thoughtful planning requires meaningful public participation. Try creative approaches to engage residents and public officials during Planning Month. For example:
- Share on social media how the planning department is addressing community housing challenges.
- Organize a walking tour for elected officials that showcases housing projects under way.
- Encourage local officials to proclaim October as Community Planning Month.
