APA breaks down the President’s budget for fiscal year 2019
For the second year in a row, the Trump Administration sent a budget proposal to Congress that would completely devastate core planning programs. Like last year’s proposal, the FY 2019 budget proposal eliminates funding for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), TIGER, Capital Investment Program (New Starts), HOME Investment Partnerships, and Choice Neighborhoods. APA strongly opposes draconian cuts that discourage the expansion of opportunity, and dissuade economic investment in local housing and transportation.
APA adopted an agenda earlier this year that advances communities through expanded access to opportunity, strategic investments in innovation, and shared prosperity. The four elements of that agenda – smart infrastructure investment, expanded housing choice and affordability, reliable federal data, and safer communities – would all be undermined by the approach taken in the budget proposal.
