APA Los Angeles Presents: New Sustainability Initiatives Tour at Santa Monica College
As a lead up to the awards excitement, please join APA Los Angeles for a talk and on-site tour of SMC’s Sustainability initiatives led by SMC’s Sustainability Project Manager Ferris Kawar.
SMC is known for its innovative environmental programs and is a leader in campus sustainability in the California Community College system. We will meet in front of the SMC’s Center for Environmental & Urban Studies (CEUS), is a resource center and gathering place. Come see the Organic Learning Garden, hear about the free farmers market which gleans leftover produce from local farmers market to feed students in need, and learn about SMC’s Sustainable Transportation incentive program, which rewards employees who bike, walk, carpool, or bus to SMC on a regular basis with a monthly incentive ranging from $15 to $30. The SMC campus features a new PE facility, the Core Performance Center (CPC) which was awarded LEED Platinum certification. The CPC is just one of 4 buildings in Santa Monica to earn this category distinction. SMC also has a campus recycling and composting operation that includes a vermicompost system.
There will be refreshments.
